I don’t know if I can think of anything I regret signing up for.
Generally speaking, signing up for most things is pretty easy. That class, event, workshop, cause, all carry with them some form of minimal effort that makes signing up inconsequential. For instance, signing up for a marathon is a pretty trivial task especially when compared with actually running one.
Here’s the thing though — you can’t actually do most things without signing up for them first. When I think back through my adult life (when you’re a kid, it seems like your parents have free rein to sign you up for things you might not have done yourself), some of the things that ended up being among my fondest memories — things that shaped my life — I have virtually no recollection of signing up for.
In a world where experiences are dominating things, signing up is the first step to action.
I’ve been thinking about signing up for a Tough Mudder this summer. I think I’ll go do that.
What are you going to sign up for?
