A few days ago, I shared some pictures from our fun afternoon at the American Museum of Natural History, and today, I have some pictures taken at the Intrepid Museum. The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is a massive aircraft carrier located at Pier 86 at 46th Street on the West Side of Manhattan. USS Intrepid fought in World War II, the Cold War and Vietnam, and it also served as a NASA recovery vessel in the 1960s. Having survived five kamikaze attacks and one torpedo strike, Intrepid is now a National Historic Landmark and the centerpiece of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. You can read more about the Intrepid and the Museum here (it also has a space shuttle pavilion).

The Museum offers guided tours, but we did the shelf guided tour and explored at our own pace. We saw sleeping quarters, huge chains used for anchoring, the bridge, and aircraft on the flight deck. It was so interesting to see military technology from the 1960s. We’ve come a long way!

Here’s a tip: If you’re going to visit the Intrepid, purchase tickets online before you go. That way, you can skip the line (which was long when we were there) and save $2/ticket.
