The Planets This Week: September 18–24

The Planets This Week: How will this week’s planetary influences be affecting you? We officially have a change of season on Thursday as we move from Summer to Autumn or Fall in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere it’s Winter to Spring. The changing of seasons coincides with the Sun moving from Virgo to Libra.

We also have Mercury finally turning direct after being retrograde since August 30th and on Friday love planet Venus moves into Sizzling Scorpio!

Thursday marks the Fall Equinox and that’s when the days and nights are equal. The Autumn Equinox occurs around September 21 or 22nd each year, when the Sun enters the Cardinal sign of Libra and the autumn season officially begins in the Northern Hemisphere.

During the Autumn Equinox, the Sun rises due east and sets due west, no matter where on the planet you are. Days and nights are just about equal. Autumn marks the lengthening nights and darkening skies. Trees change colors as the leaves fall to the ground. The energy in the air has shifted from the extroverted, free-spirited nature of summer fun to a quieter, more reflexive foreshadowing of winter.

In song, Autumn refers to the mature stage of life just past the prime, but before the retirement years. The lightheartedness of summer has passed, the harvest is almost in and school has begun. There is knowledge to be gained. The motivation to work is much greater at this time as folks instinctively prepare for the cold winter months ahead.

This is a time to save resources. Stock up on foods for the long fallow period ahead. Preserve the foods you harvest, make jams and prepare lots of meals to freeze for unbearably cold days ahead that will keep you indoors. Bring your winter wear out of the back of the closet. As autumn progresses and the nights grow longer still, you may find yourself in a more reflective state. Holidays such as Halloween and the Day of the Dead remind us of the transitory nature of life. Crops die, waiting for the chance to be reborn in the next cycle.

If you’re in the southern hemisphere the Spring Equinox occurs around March 21 each year, when the sun enters the Cardinal sign of Aries and the spring season officially begins in the Northern Hemisphere. The Sun rises due east and sets due west, no matter where on the planet you are. Days and nights are nearly equal.

In song, spring suggests the maiden or lad as they step into adulthood. Life offers many opportunities that have yet to be explored. Everything is fresh, new and exciting. Hormones act up and libidinal urges start to simmer within.

The Spring Equinox is also an in-between period that is a great for cleaning, hence the expression ‘spring cleaning.’ No longer stuck indoors due to frigid weather, the rising temperatures allow for more freedom out of the house. However, April showers usually prevent full enjoyment of the outdoors, so it is more useful to engage in activities now that will free up your time later when the weather warms up. Plant seeds around your home that will blossom in the coming months. The signs of life that are just starting to show can bring an optimistic mood. When the Sun finally makes a longer appearance, you’ll see many more bodies out to play.

The Autumn Equinox coincides with the Sun moving into Libra which happens at 7:22 am PT and 10:22 am ET. It will be in Libra until October 22nd .Under the influence of the Sun in Libra, and depending on how this transit affects the planets in your natal chart, you may find yourself seeking harmony and balance. You’ll want to be around people who are peaceful and easy-going, and you might avoid making waves by arguing or engaging in any kind of conflict. Being in a harmonious environment is also important, and you could take steps to beautify your home or work space.

You might become aware of where the scales are out of balance, and what needs to be done to restore equilibrium. The balance between self and other, autonomy and interdependence, is especially important. Are you giving too much or not enough?

Socializing comes into the spotlight, and it’s easier to make new connections and bring people together. With your desire for beauty, you might be drawn to artistic and cultural events. You want people to like you, and you might find yourself adjusting your personality to be more pleasing. Collaborative efforts and team projects are auspicious — you can get more done, and have more fun, if you work together.

You’re a natural diplomat during this time, able to see other people’s perspectives and to discover where the commonality is. The downside to seeing all points of view is that you might be indecisive, having a hard time finding out what you want and instead getting too caught up in everyone else’s opinions and ideas. Watch out for endlessly weighing your options and postponing taking action indefinitely.

On Wednesday 21st I’m happy to report that Mercury will turn direct and finally out of retrograde motion! Yah! It has been retrograde in Virgo since August 30th. Mercury rules Gemini and Virgo so when it’s retrograde in one of its own signs it could be more harsh and especially for the mutable signs — Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces. The retrograde Mercury in Virgo may have generated some frustration for you as you charitably give your support and assistance to others in need. Although you may see a lot of obvious solutions that could elude other minds, your insistence to help save the day may have been misinterpreted and resented by your recipients. You could have also been resentful of others who tried to help you, insisting on solving a problem that you feel only you have the brainpower to solve.

During this planetary period, you may have spent a great deal more time deciphering technical issues. Things are not always what they seem. There tends to be a close-minded responses to mental challenges that arise during this time when creativity and openness could actually be of benefit. A stubborn, narrow desire to tackle it all yourself is what makes this planetary influence especially daunting. An effective use of this time would have been to revisit old projects that have been on the back burner for a while. If you’ve left a software manual half unread, this was the time to wade through remaining chapters. Organize and systematize the clutter off your desk. Be careful with investments, and avoid any new projects.

Now that Mercury will be direct in Virgo you’ll have laser-like focus. No detail will escape your attention, and you’ll be able to sift and sort through information with great efficiency to get to the essence of what matters. With your enhanced powers of analysis and discrimination, you might also have a tendency to be critical, or to get too hung up on the details and lose sight of the big picture.

You might be drawn to math and science, or academic research projects that require logic, precision and attention to detail. This transit is ideal for editing and any kind of refining or perfecting process. Your planning skills are strong, and you’re able to break down complex tasks into small, manageable steps.

You may not have a lot of patience for frivolous conversations, preferring to get straight to the point. You take your time choosing your words carefully, and your speech is direct, efficient and precise. Be careful not to hurt others’ feelings with your sharp tongue — you might just be trying to help with your truthful observations, but there may be a more sensitive way to get your point across!

Perfectionism could plague you now, and in your agony over “getting it right” you might suffer from nervous anxiety or insomnia. Cut yourself some slack — you’re probably being too hard on yourself.

On Friday 23rd, love planet Venus moves into Scorpio where it will stay until October 18th. What a sizzling time this will be and especially for the water signs — Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces or anyone with planets in water signs. While Venus is in Scorpio, and depending on how this transit affects your natal chart, you may find yourself longing for deep intimacy and intense passion. You don’t have much patience for superficial connections or casual dating, preferring to relate to a few close friends and one significant other. When you get involved, you want to give all of yourself and reveal the very core of your being.

However, because of your intensity of your feelings at this time, you might be afraid of scaring people away, and could have a tendency to hold back or conceal your emotions. The fear of vulnerability could get in the way of creating the depth of connection you crave. When you take the risk of sharing your authentic self, rather than waiting for the other person to make the first move, you open the door to intimacy.

If you’re in a partnership, this could be an excellent time to deepen your bond and strengthen your sense of trust. But you may need to work through some of the shadow sides of Scorpio to get there — jealousy, abandonment and betrayal. The more you’re willing to expose yourself by sharing your deepest thoughts and feelings, the better your chances for regenerating your relationship and transforming old patterns.

Let’s take a look and see how Venus in Scorpio will be affecting your sign…

Aries- shared resources, taxes, inheritance, insurance, recycling, sex and regeneration.

Taurus — marriage, business partnerships, agreements, and rivals.

Gemini –health, diet and fitness, daily routine, employees, pets and being of service.

Cancer- romance, courtship, entertainment, amusements, pleasure, creativity and children.

Leo — home, family, parents and ancestors.

Virgo — intellect, thought, learning, communication, short trips, siblings and neighbors.

Libra- spending and saving money, possessions and attitudes toward money in general

Scorpio — self, appearance, individuality.

Sagittarius — the subconscious, seclusion, the intangible, intuition, institutions, karma.

Capricorn — friends and acquaintances, groups, clubs, associations, hopes and wishes.

Aquarius — career, status, achievements, prestige, authority.

Pisces — publishing, higher education, legalities, overseas, inlaws, religion, philosophy.

Let’s take a look at the other astrological influences of the week…

Sunday 18th

Venus in Libra opposite Uranus in Aries — this is more intense for the cardinal signs — Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn

Many folks feel unbearably restless, bored and dissatisfied during the course of this transit. Everyone wants to feel different and unique. And when just about everyone is feeling that way, things could get dicey. Try something out of the ordinary but not too shocking. At work, strange impulses and ideas don’t win any favors with our superiors. Maybe we should keep those crazy thoughts to ourselves. On the other hand, some of our ideas are positively prophetic now. But which ones? Life in the romance department may not be any easier. We’re too easily inappropriately aroused or attracted to someone we’d ordinarily sneer at. Some people throw caution to the wind and engage in risky behavior under this influence. Rarely does this have the desired effect. Impetuous behavior can hurt the pocketbook, too. Leave the credit card at home today, because an impulsive purchase made now may later be upsetting.

Monday 19th

Venus in Libra sextile Mars in Sagittarius

What a great time to throw a party or to attend any type of impromptu social event. A good time will be had by all. This transit is much more amenable to play than to work so if possible, take a day or two off from the daily grind. We feel friendly and affectionate today, assertive but not aggressive, and there’s plenty of animal magnetism in the air. Just about everyone is in an excellent mood, and we’re all skillfully making those connections that can seem like such a struggle at other times. Right now, we give and receive with equal skill. Emotional and sexual needs are coordinated to create or enhance successful relationships, especially ones in which physical attraction is already in place. We’re in a space to appreciate others’ skills and contributions and to let them know about it. For all these reasons, negotiations go very well and diplomacy is certainly a better route than arguments or ultimatums.

Tuesday 20th and Friday 23rd due to the retrograde

Mercury trine Pluto — great for the earth sign — Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn

This is a great time for participating in public speaking engagements, giving presentations at a meeting or teaching complex lessons. Our minds are sharpened and our organization flawless; our intelligence peaks under this mental transit. We speak with authority, inspiration and conviction at this time, so others are easily swayed to our point of view. We have a way with words that is lacking at other times. One thing to watch for is obsessive or circular thinking. We’ve got the mental discipline to move beyond it, and we should. We can see what no one else sees right now, so it’s a good time to volunteer for a research project or investigation. This is also an excellent time to read a self-help book or consult with a therapist, because we aren’t afraid to look inward, and accurate self-understanding is the satisfying result.

Now for your Weekly Horoscope…

Passion sizzles never far beneath the surface; it’s a hot and spicy week one way or the other! In a relationship you only have eyes for one another, but watch out for petty and unnecessary jealousy between you.
