10+ Top Beauty Trends You Need to Know About for 2017
Last year, we saw some of the most gorgeous, innovative, and wacky beauty trends. From rainbow hair and furry nails to contouring, strobing, and the strong comeback of blue eyeliner. However, no matter how amazed we were by 2016 beauty trends, this year has lots more surprises for us that are bound to cause a flood of emotions and new addictions! Without further ado, we present you the top 5 beauty trends in 2017.
1. Makeup Trends
This year’s makeup trends are dominated by two extremes. You can either apply just a little bit of makeup that will give a natural effect (with a red lip and fluffy eyebrows, you have a no-fail combination) or head the exact opposite way and go for lots of shine and glitter that is worn scattered across the bottom lashline, in a much less precise manner than before. The flecks that will fall wherever they do will create the perfect look!
Other than that, it seems that we will say goodbye to the black cat-eye liner we have been struggling to perfect the past few years and embrace a new trend that reminds us of our middle school years when we would trace a black pencil along the inner waterlines.
Another makeup trend is glossy eyelids which are a great way to shine without applying glitter or highlighters. You may use a humble lip gloss and sweep it over your favorite eyeshadow or purchase eye glosses from brands like L’Oreal, Yves Saint Laurent or MAC.
Now, if you think of the ’80s and feel nostalgic, worry not because the combination of poofy hair, colorful blush, and frosty blue shadow are here to stay, at least for another 365 days.
As for those of you that loved metallic trends as introduced in 2016, there is some excellent news because metallics are still trending; only in a significantly more delicate fashion. A touch of gold highlighter along the cheekbones or gentle swipes of silver eyeshadow across your lids will do just fine. You will also see chrome nails making their way back into style this year too. From metallic tones to mirror effects, this particular style is expected to be everywhere in 2017.
Finally, ombre lips, where you layer two mattes, starting with a fiery red shade to define the shape of the lips and then filling in the center with a brighter tone (usually orangey), is expected to steal hearts.
2. Eyebrow Microblading
Having become a “craze” last year, and loved by thousands of women worldwide already, particularly in areas like Los Angeles and Scottsdale, Arizona. If you live in Scottsdale be sure to check out the best Scottsdale eyebrow services.
Microblading is the trend we can’t get enough of. Reining in 2017, the new tattoo technique that reshapes or fills eyebrows by drawing on super small lines which look exactly like individual hairs has come to replace long hours of testing our skills (and patience) with pencils, gels, pigments, and powders trying to create the perfect brow shape, with most of us ending up with brows still off fleek.
Microblading is a semi-permanent solution (results last from a year to up to 3 years, depending on your lifestyle and skin) that can produce impressive results; perfect for women with thin eyebrows. Don’t be scared off by the thought of having a face tattoo. It is not like a regular tattoo rather than a form of tattoo artistry. In microblading, the pigment is not implanted under the skin with a machine. Instead, the microblading technician uses a manual, hand-help tool that helps draw hair-like strokes to mimic natural brow hairs.
Of course, the process involves some level of pain, but it is nothing that would scare you away. In fact, it does not hurt more than when plucking your brows, although pain is always relative. Anyhow, it is not unbearable for sure because the microblading artist numbs the area with topical numbing cream that is topped up frequently so you are the most comfortable possible throughout the process.
Once done (it usually takes 2 sessions to perfect), your freshly bladed brows will need to be protected from moisture for a week or so, and you will be provided with aftercare ointments. Expect your eyebrows to look amazing right away. However, you may also ask for touch-ups every six months or so to make sure they look just as fab for a really long time.
Whether bold and bushy or thin and sharp, you can now have the brows you have always wanted, which is huge, as perfectly shaped, fierce brows help enhance the symmetry of the face, making us look even more gorgeous!
3. Hairstyle Trends
If you think that the silver fox trend is dying out, we urge you to reconsider because it seems that gray hair is a trend that’s not going anywhere (see Hilary Duff’s gorgeous Ocean Gray or Ciara’s incredible Silver Metal hair).
The same applies to ash balayage hair, a hair coloring technique which differs from classic foil highlights, that is still doing rounds on Instagram. Dark-toned roots and hair color that gradually fades out from ashy-blond (or any whiter shade of blond dye) into a silver-gray shade create a super-appealing, face-brightening effect.
Those of you that wake up with a bad hair day will love the next trend. Feel free to get creative and accessorize your hair as you please. Use headbands, head scarves, ribbons, clips, flowers or even jewelry and metallic crowns to impress the crowds.
Other hair trends that will probably make a loud noise or continue to stop the traffic are:
- Ombre/Sombre Hair
- Tight, Neat Curls (aka Corkscrew hair) — Natural or fake, it doesn’t matter. For a more grunge vibe, you may backcomb and see how you like it.
- Denim Hair — It is something between pastel blue and electric blue hair.
- Intense Side Partings — Make sure everything is under control as this hair trend does not tolerate fly-aways! And, to take it a step further, you may also opt for a fishtail plait down the center of the parting.
- Messy Buns — There is no way we can get tired of this trend, especially considering how easy it is to messily throw the hair up top using something simple as a pen or pencil stuck in the topknot!
- Beach Hair — Who can say no to tousled hair? Simply scrunch some sea salt into the ends of the hair, and you are off the door.
- Belted Ponytails — Fasten your ponytail with a long fabric or a thin belt that falls into the same length as the end of the ponytail.
Beauty trends come and go, that’s for sure, and at the end of the day, it is all about what makes you feel gorgeous and looks great on you. So, spend some mirror time and then enjoy your new, fab self with the beauty trends that highlight the best of you!
