The Ultimate (unofficial) Rome “Bar Crawl”

I studied in Rome during the fall semester of 2018. Like most US students studying abroad in Europe, I lived a study abroad experience filled with exploring cities, hiking in nature, and eating and drinking my way through the continent. My friends and I were always determined to find the best local spots, so as to really experience the cities and countries we traveled to. In the case of Rome, since we lived there, we were inspired to research and craft up a bar crawl in one of our favorite local neighborhoods, Trastevere.

Trastevere is tucked away on the other side of the Tiber from most top sightseeing spots in Rome (besides the Vatican, which is a little ways up the river from Trastevere). This neighborhood boasts vibrant shops, and many incredible bars and restaurants. It’s quaint, and quieter during the daytime than the more popular tourist areas near the Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain, and Spanish Steps. However, at night, it’s buzzing with locals dining out and walking the picturesque cobblestone streets.

We timed our schedule for the night of the bar crawl to hit up some of the most known spots recommended to us in Trastevere. This was near the end of the semester, when it seemed like time was running out to visit every spot we wanted to go — so why not make it a full evening, we thought.
