It’s coming!
It’s beginning. The chill in the air, seeing my breath as it evaporates, and the vision of white everywhere. I’m writing this after it flurried, and the ground has returned to its bland brown color, but the excitement is still present.
The sky was black and the flurries were fat and falling quickly last night. I was in the car and all of a sudden I heard my first Christmas song of the season. Brenda Lee’s voice rang out through my car’s interior as she sang, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”
It usually bothers me how the radio stations start playing Christmas music before Thanksgiving even occurs. Sometimes people get sick of hearing it in the first week of December.
Although I usually change the station and do not listen to the Christmas carols until December, the calm darkness and flurries last night changed my mind. It did not feel like November, but a cold, snowy day in December.
Today, the sun is shining, the light cover of snow is quickly disappearing, and the leaves from the trees are still on the ground in need of raking.
