When You Take a Job and Get Scammed

I feel like I could have written that story, from a different persepective, about the same yet generically similar startup.

I was lied to from day one. Paychecks were skipped often. I often blame this on my gender and marriage status.

It’s easy to say “I’ll just take a another job when the paychecks start skipping” — but the problem is, when you’re at such a high level, there aren’t as many readily available jobs. Waiting for that check in 2 weeks is easier. In the meantime, you do start looking, or amp up your freelance work.

And the red flags are never there when the job is offered. It’s a light at the end of a dark tunnel when you’re at an awful job. Then you realize… the light’s an oncoming train. And it’s too late.
