Connecting the Dots

I have been at Innsbrook After Hours for a total of two exciting months now, I feel like I have seen it all with the high matinence bands including, rock bands, reggae bands, country bands, and bands that I am personal fans of. I am beginning to see the connections between my classes and what I am doing while I am in work mode.

The social interation theory has come into play during my time working at Innsbrook After Hours, I had to learn the new meanings of these words I had heard before but while at work they mean something totally different. A runner is typically a person who runs for enjoyment, at Innsbrook it means the person who goes out and purchases the band’s groceries. Another word was rider that in typical cases mean a person who rides in a car or in another form of transportation at Innsbrook it means the sheet of paper that comes before the band gets there with a list of requests for what they would like there waiting for them. These lists usually include beer, liquor, water, and specific foods that the bands need to have a successful performance. I have learned these new terms from interacting with my coworkers who have experience in this field.

Another theory I have recognized in the entertainment industry is the agenda-setting theory. When it comes closer to certain concerts we will go out and cover the streets of Richmond in flyers promoting the concert. For instance we are currently promoting the Dark Star Orchestra a Grateful Dead cover band concert that is coming up, so we are trying to make sure that the concert is seen around town so more people will purchase the tickets to see them.

The more I work in my internship the more I realize that our classes have a purpose so that they can teach us what we will be using in our everyday lives, they are preparing us to succeed in our future.
