Summertime — when your inner angst is released and, you’re free to frolic the streets of downtown with a cold ultra in your hand with freshly tanned skin (covered in aloe, of course).
I’d have to say this past summer had to be one of the greatest learning experiences of my entire life in the worse possible way ever. Leading up to a bad experience there’s always those warnings you get beforehand but — of course, you ignore it because you are somehow invincible.
The early morning of September 2nd, I got my last and final warning before fate stepped in and slapped me right across the face. We decided to go out and get a couple drinks, but of course as per usual, a couple turned into bar hopping. After a quick conversation leaving the last bar, I chose to get behind the wheel of a car. I somehow made my way to Cookout and preceded to make my way home, a good 45–60 minute drive. I maybe made it 100ft on the highway before a car passed me, turned around, and blue lights went on. As I began to pullover I notice the sign in front of me — is backwards. I had been driving down the wrong side of the road on a dual lane highway.
God knows when to step in, and he knows when you’ve gone overboard. I knew as soon as I had the cuffs put on me that I was saved that night. Who knows what would’ve happened if I kept going? I could’ve hurt myself or somebody else. Drinking to some is a remedy to kill an inner demon, or just to silence it. You can either continue to maintain the demon or you can rid it from inside you. Drinking excessively will continue to be a battle I fight for a very long time but, I will never let it win again.
