My fellow Rotarians, friends, invited guests, award recipients, ladies and gentlemen. I welcome you all to this great event of my club and I appreciate God Almighty for life and good health and for making this day a reality. It is with great Joy and a deep sense of responsibility that I accept the mantle of leadership of our great club for 2018/2019 Rotary year with the theme: BE AN INSPIRATION.

ROTN. JOY IKEOKWU, 5TH President, Rotary Club of Calabar, UNICAL

I am indeed humbled by the confidence of my club to appoint me as the 5th President. This confidence and trust I see as God’s divine arrangement and timing because it is written “he made all things beautiful in his time”. I thank you all.

Our RI President, Barry Rassin has asked us all to be an inspiration to ourselves and to others. This implies that we must be inspired ourselves before we can be able to inspire others as we can’t give what we don’t have. This is a great task for all of us and I believe that together in service we can get inspired and thereafter inspire others around us.

Dear friends, Rotary’s motto is ‘Service above self’. As volunteers, we have chosen to put our resources, time and talent together to serve humanity and in this year of being an inspiration, our club will not be left behind. Therefore, we in RC Calabar-UNICAL have decided to inspire ourselves and our community through the execution of some projects within and outside our community in line with the six (6) avenue of service in Rotary.

1. Basic Education/Literacy:

Career awareness/counseling, Provision/distribution of books and writing materials to public school provision of school uniforms & stocks

2. Economic/Community Development:

Grant to widows, N20,000.00 X 5

3. Peace/Conflict Prevention:

Seminar for peace & conflict resolution

4. Sanitation

5. Disease/Prevention:

Free Medical Services, De-worming for 1,000 students.

Oral Hygiene Awareness in a school, Medical Outreach/Health Awareness Campaign (Polio Myelitis, Hepatitis B etc)

6. Maternal/Child Health:

Provision of hospital 200 bed sheets and pillowcase.

My dear friends, invited guests and well –wishers, I believe God ordered your steps here to partner with us in delivering on our service projects for this rotary year. Therefore, I hereby solicit for your kindly support in cash, cheque, materials or sponsoring of any of the listed projects to enable us execute them and inspire people in and outside our community.

I want to assure you that your resources donated will be used for the execution of these projects as we partner together to be an inspiration to our community and make the world a better place for humanity.

Thank you so much for your time and patience.

God bless and grant you safety back to your destination.
