I self-identified as an autogynephile for many years. If you’re interested in a personal perspective, I invite you to read it here:

My question to you is: so what? I ask that honestly, not as a challenge. What is value of this typology? Does it lead to different, more effective treatment options for each group? Does it facilitate better research into the causes of transsexualism? Does it improve the lives of either transgender or cisgender people?

It is important to ‘keep the conversation going’ because ideas evolve, and compassion can be shown and understanding given to autogynephilic transsexuals without indulging in fantasy or supporting delusions.

I appreciate your compassion and understanding, but unfortunately it doesn’t alleviate my suffering. Do you have a proposal for how to treat my condition without resorting to indulging my delusional fantasies? I’d love to hear your ideas.
