WPI Good Design
The design I chose that I believe is good is WPI’s Global Portal 2.0. I chose this design as I believe that the user interface is easy to use and visually looks better compared to the old global portal (which I have described in another post). I have personally not used this portal yet, but many students use this portal all throughout the year to look at possible IQP, MQP and humanities project sites offered by WPI. Although this portal is catered towards upperclassmen, this portal is accessible by all students at WPI. As shown in my pictures, the dashboard of the global portal allows the student to see new news updates, available forms, my projects, favorites and see project center sites separated by each of the project type categories (IQP, MQP, Humanities). In addition to the simple user interface, the colors used in the design are simple, using minimal types of colors. When looking at the project sites for each of the different projects, the portal allows the user to choose between the academic year the project is offered, and whether the project is off campus or on campus. The projects are displayed in a simple matter, with the project location name on the top and the term that the project is available on the bottom. The portal also separates the off campus and on campus projects by color, as seen in the picture below, where the off campus projects are purple and the on campus projects are green. Overall, this design allows the user to look at the different project sites offered by project type, where the project is offered, and what term the project is offered in a simple and easy to use design.
