Hi Funmi! Reading this just gave me a little boost. I’ve been falling out of love with Lagos lately. I need to go discover something new. Thanks for the inspiration!

However, I have to say that you are wrong about the Shrine. The New Afrika Shrine is Femi’s joint. That technicality aside, it is a place worth visiting in the daytime for the art of it. You should definitely go back one afternoon, and let someone there give you a tour (they will offer). Booze and smoke notwithstanding, watching Femi Kuti play on his Sunday Jump is amazing. It’s always a great time. The area might look dodgy, but if you pay someone for parking, you can trust them to watch your car.

I wrote about a trip to the Shrine back in 2014 here: http://www.thekinkandi.com/shrinin/ and here’s another post on Sabirah’s blog here: http://blog.sabiraho.com/2012/10/felabration-lite/

P.S. Have you visited the Kalakuta museum? It’s good too. Go on a quiet afternoon. They have a rooftop restaurant, and they serve fried yam :)
