Disney Tip # 8- Walt Disney World Railroad

The train station on Main Street is a great photo opportunity before you go into the park.

Walt Disney had a love for trains. He actually built a train track in his backyard. That’s right! Called the “Carolwood Pacific”, he would take guests in his home for a ride on this miniature train. That train can currently be seen in the Disney museum in San Francisco. However, Walt brought this love to his parks and created a fully operating steam train that encircles the Magic Kingdom.

This train will take you express from Main Street to Frontierland (right next to Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain! Hint hint! If you’re looking to beat the crowds and get there quickly, jump on the train!) It also stops in the back of Fantasyland near the duel Dumbo rides and Goofy’s rollercoaster (a great coaster for kids!) and then makes it way back to Main Street.

You can catch a ride from three different stations at the Magic Kingdom

There are several things to see on the train but it’s more for the ride and getting somewhere than it is for being a major attraction.

Something else that’s pretty cool. If you have a younger one who loves trains (I had one that was obsessed with them) speak to the conductor. There is a “Guest Conductor” on each train and if your little one is it, they’ll let them say “All aboard!!” in the mic. It’s a pretty big thrill for a kid!

The last tip about the Main Street Train Station is if you get there early enough (before the park opens) you can view the opening ceremony. I’ve seen it a few times and it’s worth seeing at least once. Mickey and Minnie will personally welcome you to the Magic Kingdom!

So while you’re at Disney, enjoy a train ride! Walt would want you to!
