Disney Tip # 91- Peter Pan’s Flight
This is a perfect example of another Disney classic that has withstood the test of time. This ride was one of the original rides when Disneyland opened. It was also one of the original rides at the opening of Walt Disney World in Florida in 1971.
Peter Pan’s Flight is located in Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. If you don’t fast pass this attraction, be prepared for a lengthy wait. There’s a reason the wait is still one of the longest in the park, even after being in existence for 48 years!
The ride itself tells the story of Peter Pan’s fight with Captain Hook and rescuing Wendy, Peter, and John from the Pirates. There are so much low tech special effects in this ride that still works today.
For instance, the “cars” on the road in London are nothing more than glow-in-the-dark tape attached to a bicycle chain. But it works. You’ll also notice a lot of forced perspective (we talked about it in a previous blog post) in play in this dark ride with black light effects.
The fact that this ride is still one of the longest waits in Fantasyland is a true testimony to Walt Disney’s vision and innovativeness as well as his ability to connect to children of all ages. You may wait a little while to get on this attraction but it’s still worth it.
A few years ago, Disney upgraded the queue line with interactive games in the Darling house. They’re fun and even magical in places. Watch out for Tinkerbell!
This ride still delights children young and old. Enjoy it!
