Because checking off step 1 is the most important.
Basically, I’m just going to vomit some words on the page (screen). I already edited that previous sentence three times. And then that one once. No more edits. I wonder if Medium has a stri… fuck… has strikethough dammit strikethoug son of a bitch strikethrough formatting. Got it. Typos be damned.
I like the idea of writing but I get locked up on th p the page. So it’s time to just work through the process of putting anything out three there dammit stri need strikethroughs.
Let’s try that again. I like the idea of writing, of creating and putting stuff outht out there. Not that I think I’m wise but because I want to have the feedback. And everything that I’ve read in the past week is about just working the process… forget about the goal, forget about how hood good dammit I am not DJ Khalid… forget about how good I want to be and just put some words down.
That’s an Ira Glass thing, isn’t it? It’s somewhere on YouTube. Artists start out with fantastic taste but don’t have the skills to create up to their own standards of good taste. And you just have to work the reps through that process until finally you get there. Seth Godin talks about it in The Dip too. Jeff Haden blogged about it this week for Inc — forget about setting goals, and just work the steps of a process that creates the stuff you want. With our OR fack start over. With or without a goal, jsut just work the process, do the reps, put shit on the screen and share it out with the world. Forget about the goal and getting better, and just get comfortable working the reps and familiar with the motions.
So there’s some word vomit. I’ve finally created my first post for Medium and gotten past the fear of creating something that would suck, by intentionally creating something that does suck. I’ve lowered the bar and my own expectations so now I can focus on just working through the reps.
