I understand the value of focusing on robocars, one aspect of a much larger big picture, to explain, as succinctly as possible, the level and scope of disruption these future technologies might create.

However, the real meat of this matter lies with how every newfangled technology, and every future aspect of human life, get knitted together. It’s this holistic vision that counts, not one or two isolated aspects of it.

Will it be a balanced approach that actually serves the greater good? Or will it create and proliferate imbalances that wreak havoc for many to the benefit of a few?

Will it foster greater social harmony or promote utter chaos?

Will an organic outgrowth of this new world existence get the job done, or will such growth require persistent monitoring, regulation and/or subsidy assistance?

And what kind of time frame are we talking about before realizing these holistic benefits? Because, in the short term, it’s almost certain to visit some measure of chaos upon many.

Do we have a decent enough grasp of potentially unintended consequences?

When it comes to this magnitude of disruption, Ready, Fire, Aim! is a poor substitute for Ready, Aim, Fire!
