While I appreciate the relevance and legitimacy of trying to curb — and ultimately end — this kind of sexism, I can’t help but note the hypocrisy that accompanies it.
Male bashing has been prevalent since at least the 1980’s. Google male bashing or male bashing in commercials and you’ll soon discover a steady proliferation of it.
Marketers do it, in large part because they found women like it so much and, in fact, do it themselves.
To suggest men alone are culpable of engaging in sexism is hardly forthright and honest. Yet it happens quite a bit these days. There even seems to be a growing tendency for women to portray themselves as a panacea to men, not equal but superior — as though it would be an egalitarian world if, and only if, men would realize the good grace to finally bow out.
Maybe both sexes need to step back and do a little introspection. Or alternatively, accept the role of remaining embattled.
