The allegedly “well-studied and well-designed plan” by the SFMTA was nothing of the kind. There was no environmental review ever completed. There was no assessment of the impact on housing and on gentrification (both well-documented by volunteers at the Anti-Eviction Mapping Project). Absolutely NOBODY is trying to argue that mass transit = gentrification. Mass transit is the transportation method of the poor. A luxury layer superimposed over publicly-funded infrastructure is a coopting of instruments intended for public good. I am in full support of Supervisor Campos’s compromise to proceed with a 6 month study of environmental and housing impact so that decisions can be made based on data, not the whim of Google and Scott Wiener.
