Our comfort with accepting an officer’s “right to kill” leaves my spirit throbbing with a fear much older than my body. This is not new though. And I want to be clear: It is the institution of policing, even more than the individual officers, that is responsible. There is clear and convincing evidence that the system and institution of policing fails communities of color and low-income communities time and time again. When will the evidence lead us to effectively transform the culture and institution of policing to actually serve justice for all? To serve and protect all including the suspected and the guilt-to serve and protect all and bring them to trial for Justice.
