Blizzcon 2017, Overwatch World Cup Finals

10,000 events online and offline annually, a multitude of organizations drafting players, and more than a billion dollars of investment. Esports hit its major growth spurt in the last 2 years and suddenly, even as an avid member of the community, the industry became far too difficult to keep up with.

This has been a big dilemma for myself and many others who don’t just enjoy esports, but live it. In my case alone, I’m a fan of Team Liquid, an international organization that sits at well over 11 different games now — 11 different games that I try my best to follow in the 17 hours I’m awake — and of course, that doesn’t include scenes in the space Liquid doesn’t participate in; Call of Duty, Rocket League, Gears of War just to name a few. Heaven forbid I follow another team in another game, in another country.

Fortunately, there are solutions to the problem. There exists mobile esports, and one such I’ve taken a liking to is an app called Upcomer ; it’s been notifying me of matches I would otherwise miss or be unable to watch LIVE to begin with. Hell, it even puts the VODs in one place for me. It’s sweet.

For as long as I’ve been a fan of sports, and held a mobile phone, I wouldn’t be without some sort of sporting app — NBA, NFL apps. Why and how is it that someone who has been engaged with esports in so long, chose not to bother finding a similar product?

I don’t know, but let me tell you this app means business. The UI has been easy to get around and the functionality of the app just works — and boy is it a joy to see a push notification that says ‘Liquid 3–0 Evil Geniuses’ in Dota 2. Never has an application really helped me keep track of the industry in such a way, even the smaller events I would never have known existed.

For the folks out there who really love esports, or just want it simply easier to navigate, I’d advise checking upcomer.com .
