Maximising my productivity

It’s taken me years, and i’m sure there’s still more improvements that can be made but i feel like i’ve reached some kind of equilibrium now.

First, some outline of what i do, then i’ll get to how i fit it all in. I consult for a VR company in 6 different projects; do a daily postup of news links for the industry; do CrossFit 4–5 days a week; work a full time 10–6 Job; mentor at a startup accelerator and teach 2 4 week long lectures a year; i’m learning Python and Spanish as well. (sounds like alot, i assure you it isn’t)

Here’s how it actually all fits together —

Weekdays —

  • I getup at around6.30, in the office by 8.30.
  • 8.30–9.30 — daily post up, reading, market research
  • 9.30–12.00 — day job
  • 12.00–13.00 — lunch, i also try squeeze in any meetings i might have
  • 13.00–18.00 — day job, i have a break around every hour for about 15 min — i use this to work on my VR company stuff, usually its just catching up on emails.
  • 18.00–20.00 — (Monday to Wedneday) CrossFit; (Thursday) any events, mentoring, meetings; (Friday) time with family, any events, mentoring, meetings, if i haven’t trained at some point I make it up here.
  • 20.00-onwards — dinner, 10–15min on PY app for learning python (I alternate this with courses on coursera as well); 10–15 min on Duolingo; watch TV, check emails etc.
  • 24.00 — Bed.

Weekends -

Saturday — up by 07.00; working by 09.00 (either teaching, working on own projects, mentoring or anything else); 13.00 lunch; continue working till around 15.00, then CrossFit, around 17.00 rest till 18.30/19.00 then usually dinner with family, friends or industry ppl. Try and be done by 21.00, 10–15min on PY app for learning python (I alternate this with courses on coursera as well); 10–15 min on Duolingo; watch TV, check emails etc. bed by 24.00.

Sundays are very similar but try not to work on anything other than hobbies after lunch.

couple of things to note -

PY app and Duolingo rock — make it extremely effective for me to learn. I do this everyday. I also try and ready for at least 15min a day (i use Get Abstracted most of the time, but if there’s something more important/recommended, i’ll read the whole book)

I do CrossFit Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday — the reason for the split in this way is that it ensures i get at least 3 days of training in a week, its not ideal but its better than nothing.

Every month i try to have 1 ‘cheat’ weekend where on that weekend i break this routine so i can do whatever i choose to, that helps me to not get stuck in a rut and keeps family happy.
