Sexism is Hard to Explain
Kel Campbell

This is so ‘right on’. Although I continue stepping back for any woman so that she may exit first from our shared elevator and will always hold the door for anyone who happens to be a step or two behind, (having seldom passed through multiple (heavy corporate) glass doors, I’d never think to request she divert her path to mine), it seems clear enough that the man in question meant to assert his seldom challenged condescending masculinity, and had I been in your place I’d like to think I would have ignored him, but who can say. But I do know this; On the rare occasion when a youngster, (anyone under 65 years) jumps up and offers me their seat on the subway, thereby identifying me as a soon to collapse old codger, I do get a little pissed.
