Today, I pre-ordered an iPhone 12 Pro Pacific Blue as a replacement for my iPhone X. I had a hard time deciding whether I should upgrade, but I ultimately chose the iPhone 12 Pro for its camera feature.

(Also, I would like to shot-out to Apple’s pre-ordering volumes. Although the preorder started at 5 am PST, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro were widely available throughout the pre-order day, in contrast to the recent launch shortages of Nvidia RTX 30 series, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X.)

Earlier this week, Nvidia released the much anticipated Nvidia RTX 3070, 3080, and 3090 GPUs. According to Nvidia, these new generation GPUs offer a considerable performance increase in terms of rasterization, ray tracing, and tensor core accelerations alone with many AI-based software features for live streaming, creative professionals, and gamming.

RTX 20 series was a successful experiment

When Nvidia first released the 20 series GPU amid uncertainty over bitcoin mining demand and the rise of high-performance computing, they decided to put a premium price tag on their consumer GPUs. …

Apple is moving away from Intel in favor of its ARM-based chip, which has shown impressive power and efficiency in new products such as iPad Pro. For users who rely on Macs for typing documents, browsing the web, watching Netflix, or even editing photos and videos, the transition should be transparent. Apple is actively working on three features to achieve the goal: Universal 2, Rosetta 2, and Virtualization. Transitioning to a new platform is never easy, and luckily, this is not the first time Apple transitioned from one chipset to another.

The OnePlus Story

In April 2014, OnePlus released the OnePlus One with the starting price of $299. They said this was their flagship killer and would never settle. In the same year, Samsung released the Galaxy S5 as the continuation of “The Next Big Thing is Already Here.”

Fast-forwarding to the new decade, many companies have tried to claim the flagship title, but only a few have succeeded. Apple is still Apple in the high-end phone market with the best selling iPhone 11 and the aspiring iPhone 11 Pro. …

I have always been an Apple fanboy and owned many MacBooks in the past, but Microsoft’s recent Surface line-up captured my attention, which led me to replace my 2017 12-inch Macbook with a Surface Pro 7. I hope to use the Surface as an iPad and Macbook. Although the Surface turned out to be not as good as either iPad or Macbook, I fully respected Microsoft’s new emphasis on design, pen interaction, and its commitment to a long-lasting keyboard.

In 2019, after my Surface was stolen, I embarked on a journey searching for the best laptop.

At last! Blizzard released the remastered version of Warcraft 3, which is now called Warcraft 3 Reforged. I was a Warcraft 3 fan and considered myself an above-average versus player and avid participant of custom games even before Dota became popular. I went through middle school summers playing only Warcraft 3, and occasionally sneaked into my neighbor’s apartment on a school night “studying” the night elf campaign.

Today, Forbes reported that Warcraft 3: Reforged received the all-time-low score of 0.5 user score on Metacritic. Blizzard has made many decisions that upset fans and let us analyze some of the complains:

Thanks to the advancement in deep learning and reinforcement learning, DeepMind achieved groundbreaking success first in Atari, then in Go, and finally in Starcraft II.

One of the major benefits of AI research is the ease of replication. Before this decade, many researchers had to hand-code gradient calculations, loss functions, and data processing pipelines. Nowadays, solving a MINST dataset problem using Keras only requires less than 70 lines of code.

Replicating DeepMind’s Atari results is relatively easy. Having an Nvidia 2080 Ti GPU would undoubtedly speed up your training process, but all you need is a modern computer. There are…

The iPhone 11 in 6 colors. Source: Apple.

Since the good old days of the iPhone 4, I have followed the ritual of upgrading my iPhone every other year. The iPhone 5 introduced a new display with an extra row of icons, the iPhone 6 offered a bigger screen, the iPhone 7 was water-resistant and came with the stunning piano black color, and the iPhone X defined the new generation of iPhones.

There are much better articles out there detailing the year to year changes so I should not repeat them here but highlight a few critical features:

The iPhone 11 Pro is the true successor to the…

In 2007, my parents gave me my first Apple product: the newly released iPod Nano 3rd Generation in silver with 4GB of storage. The device changed my life because I had only used a Creative MP3 with capacity for around 200 songs. Having an iPod meant I could finally put all my collection of songs into a single device.

The iPod Nano was more than a music device for holding 1000+ songs. It allowed me to experience, for the first time, the intuitive interface created by engineers and designers at Apple. To select a new song, I used the click…

Spoiler Warning: if you have not yet watched the final episode of Game of Thrones, don’t bother.

I started watching Game of Thrones TV series in high school. At the time, I knew Dan and David created Game of Thrones TV series based on the fantasy masterpiece A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin and adapted the name of the first book as the TV series title. Admittedly, as a high school teenager, I initially watched the TV series because of the visual and fantasy aspect of the show. And for obvious reasons, I have never…
