1. The Scary Ruins Of Drukgyel Dzong

Located in the Paro Valley of Bhutan, Drukgyel Dzong was once a fortress built in the 17th century to protect the country from invasions.

Legend has it that the fortress is haunted by the spirits of the brave soldiers who died defending the fort making it one of the most haunted locations in Bhutan.

However, the fortress was destroyed by fire in the 1950s, and the charred windows, fractured walls, and ominous darkness create the impression that something horrible is lurking inside.

2. Chorten Kora, A Lore Within A Stupa

Chorten Kora in Bhutan is a magnificent Buddhist architecture modeled after Nepal’s Bodhnath stupa.

Lam Ngawang Loday turned to divine intervention and constructed a stupa reminiscent of Nepal’s Boudha Chorten in order to calm an evil spirit haunting one of Bhutan’s most notorious locations. As per the legend, Ani Chorten Zangmo, a 16 -year-old girl believed to possess divine qualities, was then enclosed within the stupa.

Today, Dakpas from Arunachal Pradesh undertake a three-day pilgrimage during the first month of the lunar calendar to honor their princess’s sacrifice.

Bhutanese also believe that the Chorten appears to radiate more brilliantly when they offer their prayers, making it one of Bhutan’s haunted places.

3. The Spirits Of Tang Valley

If you want an eerie adventure, visit the Spirits of Tang Valley — one of the 5 most haunted places in Bhutan.

The valley is located in the Bumthang dzongkhag and is known for its rich history and scenic beauty. However, it is also notorious for its supernatural activities here.

As per the legend from the eighth century, Guru Padmasambhava pacified evil spirits in Tang Valley that were creating turmoil among the population.

Despite going unnoticed, lower-level spirits can still have a significant impact on human interactions, often causing harm such as illness, death, and superficial wounds.

The ghosts in the Tang Valley are both feared and worshiped, making it one of the most haunted places in Bhutan.
