I disagree with almost every word you write here. But as this is a democracy I defend, and have defended your right to write them. But let me ask just a few questions. You say conservatives believe in and want limited government. In a democracy I want more democracy, and thus more government. After all, unless we let it be destroyed by “conservatives” like Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell democracy, the government are just all of us governing ourselves. Second, I have no objection to trade. But I object to trade being used to destroy some nations and some peoples to make a small clique richer and richer. How about you? Check and balances supposedly keep power out of the hands of small groups who use it to further their own and no one else’s interests. But as soon as you add capitalism to that mix, money destroys the checks and the balances. What do you think? I take federalism as the division of the right to make important choices between different people in different circumstances of life. But once again we come back to money. How does a local school board fight national PACs armed with millions who want to change local school choices? How do local people who want to invited immigrants to their towns fight millionaire-funded media who spread hatred and distrust of people who look or speak differently than they do. I submit they cannot. What’s your view? In short, I think your type of conservativism is just a lot of hot air that means nothing an accomplishes nothing. On top of being anti-democratic. And you?
