Malappuram — the land of forests, mountains and delicacies

The pleasant monsoon has begun and it was time to pack our bags for a special monsoon holiday. Being in Chennai it was always easier for us to visit Kerala most of the time. This time, we decided to take up the flight and enjoy the short vacation. Covering almost all the places in Kerala on every trip, this time, we decided to take up a tour to Malappuram, a district in the Malabar region. As we arrived at the Calicut airport, our guide was all ready to receive us as we had availed the Kerala tour packages to easily spot the places and never to miss any of them. As we were moving to Malappuram, we enjoyed the beauty of the cities as we passed. The cities and villages were almost drenched in rain and the beauty was impeccable. The freshness in the air, the soft touch of the breeze, the smell of rain and the soaked soil was almost making us feel as if we were in some fantasy land. The cities are most modern with grand shopping malls and air-conditioned Volvo buses to ease your commute. We noticed many Volvo buses plying to various places in the state from the airport.

As we were reaching Malappuram, we just dozed off a little with the cool breeze and the sound of rain in our ears. The first thing we did after checking in was to explore the nearby places by walk. The tour guide and the hotel staff were quite friendly to help us. While we managed with our broken Malayalam to ask for help, we were quite surprised at how well they were communicating with us. It was almost dusk time, and all over the places nearby we could hear the Muslim prayer call from the mosques. We just took a walk around exploring some shops and bought some snacks to munch on. The first spot to explore on our list of Tour packages in Kerala was the Nilambur forests.

Nilambur was a small town in Malappuram which is famous for its teak plantation. We stood watching the tall teak trees in the forests area. The forests belong to the Nilgiri forests range on the Western Ghats. The gigantic Western Ghats bordering these forests are worth watching. The Malappuram district was once the main area where the British and the Europeans ruled. Nilambur is famous for its traditional Kovilakams, which were the famous residence of old kings and queens. The houses are well-maintained and have beautiful artwork inscribed on the woods and walls. Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary seemed to be a famous spot to visit in the Kerala tour package as we spotted many bird watchers and nature lovers wandering in the forest area. There were never-ending clicks of the camera when a big flock of migratory birds arrived as we stood watching them. The cluster of islands looked marvelous with these birds. The Kadalundi river flowing nourishing these small islands and flowing to the Arabian Sea was a beauty to watch out. My photographer friend loved taking snaps to make the trip a memorable one. Over the Chaliar River, there was a hanging bridge and it was a good experience to walk on it. We enjoyed the beauty around the bridge by taking snaps and posing for selfies on the hanging bridge.

As we were moving on the Nadukanni road, we spotted many beautiful rock paintings on the rocks beside the road. The painting was based on the traditional Kalarippayattu forms, the ancient costumes of men and women and even elephants, birds, plants etc. were also depicted on the rocks. We stood by those marvelous works and took some snaps. Continuing on the road we discovered more and more paintings till we reached the Nedumakayam rainforests. The forest was enchanting and had a beauty that catches everyone’s attentions. We enjoyed a walk through the forests and enjoyed our trekking experience.

The Adyanpara waterfalls were truly alluring to visit in tour packages to Kerala. The waterfall is amidst the lush green forests in Kumbalangodu village in Nilambur. The water falls on the sloppy area with the high water current. The clear streams gush through these rocky terrains, with the forest-clad hillocks in the backdrop’s cascading waterfall forms a pool in the bottom, which was the best to get a cool dip. Luckily, as we visited on a perfect sunny day in the monsoon and enjoyed the cool dips in the fresh water. The serene nature gives you a feel like you are in the lap of nature playing in the cuddled pond formed by the waterfall.

After our experience in Nilambur with nature, we decided to take a trip to the beaches of Malappuram in Thanur. The countryside is a mesmerizing one. The village is mainly a fishing town. The village had the oldest temple of Keraladeshapuram. We enjoyed the stroll through the beach and even spotted many fishermen boat approaching the beach. The sunset was a relaxing sight to watch. Kallikavu, another beautiful village we visited on our Malappuram tour in Kerala holiday tour packages. These villages were like god-gifted with abundant beauty. We even visited the Kadampuzha temple, a famous pilgrimage center in Kerala, to seek blessings.

In our holiday tour packages in Kerala, we visited the New Amarambalam Reserved forests, a protected area formed in the Western Ghats by the government of India. These forests were mainly intended to preserve the various endangered species, which were gradually being phased out of the earth. It was nearly appreciable to see the initiatives by the government to protect these natures gift.

Visiting Kerala, that too with Kotakkal in close proximity, we decided to take up the Ayurveda massages given in the Kottakal center. The Ayurveda treatment rejuvenated our souls and we felt quite refreshing after all these trekking and touring the city. After some purchases of some artifacts from the busy street of Malappuram, we decided to take off back to the city life with all the wonderful memories.
