Using the Samsung MU6300 40" 4K TV as a Computer / PC Monitor

The Samsung KU6300 (from 2016) is well known for being a good 4K TV to use as a PC monitor. I use one in my home as such, and have been quite happy with it. It’s successor, the MU6300 (2017) I purchased for work, but could not find any information confirming that, like its predecessor, also supported an appropriate PC mode. This article is to document what I’ve found.

TL;DR: Yes, with a bit more elbow grease.

Overall it was harder to get to a “PC monitor” setting combination than the KU6300. Specifically the monitor kept wanting to run its sharpening algorithm, but eventually it faithfully displayed what my computer was sending. See:

And here are all the settings that enabled it:

UHD for the HDMI input must be turned on to get the 4:4:4 chroma sampling. Sharpness should be set to 50 (this seems to be the “no sharpening” setting, with any value lower than that actually blurring the image).

HDMI Black Level needs to be “normal”, not “low”, otherwise the contrast is off. (A light gray checkerboard on a white background becomes invisible no matter how low the contrast is set.)

The contrast setting appears to be acting solely as a brightness setting here, with no apparent change in the relative brightness between pixels.

The actual brightness setting did nothing as far as Icould tell (with values -5 to +5). I left it at 0(the default).

The color tone options other than “Warm2” were all way to blue, as is common on TVs.

I spent quite some time w/ the UHD turned on (at least according to the UI) and sharpness turned all the way down, but still with clear edge detection and chroma sampling rendering artifacts. I was considering returning the monitor, but I turned UHD off and back on again, and that truly enabled it.

Hope this helps!
