For Christchurch: Running beyond standstill

When one goes on long distance runs, there is a time when the rhythm of your breath, the capacity you feel in your lungs, and the cadence of your strides that allows you the leave the shackles of gravity behind momentarily (again and again) converge to a still point. You…

Goodbye, Uncle Stan Lee

I am saying goodbye to Uncle Stan Lee. Has been a day already, will be another couple of days. For me, this man is responsible for a good amount of the glory of my childhood (and the progression of a value system that has informed me as an adult). I…

Let’s Talk About Human Rights — Seeking Conversation About Gun Rights and Violence

There is a responsibility to listen to the voices in Parkland; a tsunami of voices, opinions and screams and I believe it is my responsibility to listen. To deeply try to think this out. And as I listen over the last many days, this song comes to me as a…

The Honesty of George Michael And Why He Meant a Great Deal to Me

A handful of months have now passed; I have been a fan of George Michael (all the way when I was growing up in Pakistan) since the 80’s all the way to his current musical explorations. His passing hurt… the letting go of something that one thought has permanence. The…

Shattering Into Molecules Listening to Nouvelle Vague and Why We As Entrepreneurs Need to Engage in Grace and Give a S**t

What does it mean to care? What does it mean to be absolutely present with this other human being? Recently, being the entrepreneur in residence of a largish capital fund, these questions have become enormously important to me. …

Muhammed Ali and his secrets to me

I waited a bit… a bit… to just be quiet and let it all sink in… the passage of Muhammed Ali from this life to the next adventure that he is now part of. His life which was ours; his grace that was a gift to behold; his athleticism which…

Why Prince Is a Beacon to Us Entrepreneurs

Why Prince Is a Beacon to Us Entrepreneurs I loved Prince; went to college near Minneapolis in the late 80’s and always wanted to get into the dance clubs where he played. His live shows were legendary. The music… man… the music. The energy. The sweep of raw emotion. The…

Richard Linklater is a genius

The trilogy Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, and Before Midnight is a work of art. By our maestro Richard Linklater. You have to see it as one movie. So shut off the binge TV watching for a little bit and binge away on this work of art. Spanning eighteen actual years, the follows Ethan Hawke and Julie Delphy as young lovers, and then eventually a married couple. There are moments of glances, grace, kisses, arguments and fights… all bonded by this massively manic and complicated revelation called love. The camera stays on our loves, the dialogue (genius, pure genius…) goes on and on and on. And the ambiance of the geography they habitat lifts and instructs. It is art. What more can you ask for?
