Dates & Reminders In WorkFlowy?

  1. Personally, this feature will not be of much use unless the mobile app is improved. I primarily look at notifications and reminders on my phone, and the lack of a truly native iOS app means that I rarely use Workflowy on mobile (although Handflowy is a slight improvement). The interface of the mobile app is simply too clunky compared to the wonderful desktop version. (The desktop version is optimized for the keyboard, but the mobile version does not work as well with a touch interface.)
  2. If I were to use this feature, I would want some kind of assisted input. It would be too risky to depend on memorizing some kind of hashtag syntax for an important reminder. The chances of mistyping the tag are too high.
  3. For a true GTD implementation I would want to see two features that are often left out of similar programs (I’m thinking of Task Paper): One is repeating tasks. So many of the things I have to keep track of happen on a regular schedule. Todoist has a very nice implementation of repeating tasks and it is worth looking at their many options. The second is something Todoist lacks, but which is essential for a proper GTD system: start dates. Start dates are useful both because they serve to hide due items until you need to start working on them (taxes may be due on April 14th, but you don’t need to start working on them until a few weeks before they are due) and because it allows due dates to really function as due dates. If you don’t have start dates, you end up using due dates as start dates in order to bring those items to your attention when you need to begin working on them, and thus loose the ability to track how long until something is due.
