A quick introduction

If you’re reading this, you probably stumbled upon one of my articles and then clicked on my profile to decide if you want to follow me (or to decide if you want to troll one of my posts — fair enough!).

Since it’s impossible to customize the Medium profile beyond writing a 2-line bio, I thought I’d use the “featured article” slot as a way to introduce myself and my work.

And to thank you. (You’ll see.)

My name is Keri.

  • I started writing on Medium at the end of 2018.
  • I’m a technical writer.
  • I run a publication called Coding in Simple English.
  • You can find my full portfolio and contact information here.

Many writers on Medium focus on one particular niche. I don’t.

I write about anything I feel like writing about, but most of my articles fall into one or more of the following categories:

  • technology/programming
  • education
  • humor/satire/political satire
  • communication
  • language/culture
  • money/personal finance
  • rants
  • life lessons

I maintain a few alternate accounts for more personal writing, because:

  • my articles seem to rank very high on Google for specific keywords (nice, unless it’s about my personal life)
  • bloggers tend to criticize my work and call me out by name (awesome, but not if it’s about my personal life)
  • I don’t want to confuse my followers any more than I already have

If you’re an avid reader on Medium, you’ve probably read some of my other articles without realizing they were written by me. It’s like I’m ghostwriting for myself.

If you’re a new follower, you should read…

I’ve written some articles that blew up within hours, and I’ve written some that have no claps. Here are my favorites, regardless of their popularity.

This is the article that caused me to get addicted to Medium. It went viral overnight. Beware of the comment section.

This one is growing in popularity, and I’m not sure why, because I didn’t think it was any good. Lots of friendly comments.

I thought this one was amazing, but the stats don’t support my line of thinking. Any Khabib fans here? Trust me, you’re pronouncing his name wrong.

Humor. Or satire. Whatever you call it, this article is full of facts.

I speak 5 languages. I wrote this article in Spanish, too.

I write about other types of “language”, too. Don’t expect too much more about relationships on this account, though. Consider this a rare treat.

This is one of those rants I mentioned earlier. I don’t understand why this is popular. The comment section is fun here.

Political humor. Some people didn’t find this funny. I did.

The comment section is tame, but the backlash elsewhere on the internet isn’t. A lot of people took this one personally.

Thank you for reading my work. Thank you for highlighting… it amazes me that some of my articles are almost completely highlighted. Thank you for starting interesting discussions in the comments. Thank you for clapping; whether it’s 1 clap or 50, I appreciate that you enjoyed my writing. And thank you for following me.

Writing on Medium changed my life, because it showed me that I can make a career out of writing. Most of the people I work with found me through Medium, which means that your support directly contributed (and continues to contribute) to my success.

PS: Thinking about re-publishing one of my articles on your own site without asking me first? Think again. I issue DMCA takedown notices regularly. If you’d like to translate one of my articles, please contact me first — I’ll probably say yes. I will almost always work with translators who need portfolio pieces to demonstrate their translation skills. But if you think it’s alright to republish anyone’s work anywhere without their permission, or to scrape Medium for articles in certain tags that you will then monetize on your own site… don’t say I didn’t warn you.
