Truth In Advertising…Or Not

You have to be careful when shopping

Today I received an e-mail circular from the drugstore, proclaiming “20% Off Everything! Use THISCODE.”

I was pleased, since there was a personal care item I needed. So, I clicked through to the online store, found the item, and put it in my shopping cart. But, when I typed in THISCODE, a message popped up saying the promo code was not applicable.

Reading the fine print, it turned out that there was 20% off everything *except* some dozen categories. And, you guessed it, my item fell into one of those excluded categories.

Fortunately, I found a coupon for my item and used it to take $2.00 off. But, still, it rankled. Everything means everything, not everything except a dozen categories of merchandise… At least, it used to.
