The last kampong


Tucked away on mainland Singapore is the last remaining Kampong. This word refers to the old housing that used to cover Singapore before the government began to build up the country and HDBs.

From other blogs and posts I’ve found, it seems as if less than 30 people still live in this kampong. The land is owned by one lady who rents the properties out to Malays and Chinese Singaporeans.

The houses are made of wood and zinc and when we went to visit many of the houses looked abandoned and boarded up. Hopefully the kampong will remain in order to keep some more of Singapore’s heritage in the country!
