I thank you that I can only thank you

I call you father,

You are the only true father,

From world inception to world end,

You will always be Father.

And I thank you for that.

You gave me a worldly family,

One that I have and love,

Sometimes we dislike each other,

But that’s what makes us strong.

And I thank you for that.

I grow in various lines of life,

I have made friends,

Some whom I am attached,

I call and treat them as family

And I thank you for that.

It’s a shame I have nothing,

Nothing of value to repay,

Your kindness is beyond measure,

I give my poor heart, worthless as it is.

And I thank you for that — For accepting it as a gift.

I wish I could give more,

I only hope, that as difficult as it is,

I can obey you and be full of compassion,

Therefore father, guide me through these desires,

And I thank you for that.

I might forget, most times,

To be thankful for your mercies,

Your joy, guidance and protection for my beloved and me,

But Father, please know that I can only be grateful to you,

And I thank you for that.

I thank you for that love,

I thank you for that happiness,

I thank you for that peace,

I thank you for that provision,

I thank you that I can only thank you.
