Sharing links on Social Media may be one of the most common methods of fetching visits.
And social media platforms are aware of this, so they’re doing a preview of the links that are being posted, so it’s very important to show the public’s interest through this preview and use them properly.

What is <meta> tags?

It is a tag written in Html containing a description of what this page contains, used by websites and search engines, especially in ranking standards within search results.

You can see it when you visit one of the sites by using your browser’s source view feature.

Facebook uses <meta> tags leveraging the Open Graph (og like you can see in the last image) protocol, a classification system for Web pages that extends beyond those <meta> tags already defined in HTML5. A complete list of <meta> tags available can be found at the Open Graph Web site. There are so many from which to choose that it can be somewhat intimidating, but only a few are actually required.

You might be surprised to share your links on Twitter that your meta tag isn’t working there!
Well, Twitter has its own tag, which is not very different from earlier, but you’d rather use them.

Check my meta tag:

There are many sites that offer you advance preview service of their most famous:

metatags

Facebook Sharing Debugger

Twitter Card Validator

Is this really necessary?

There’s a huge competition among websites to bring in visits from social media platforms or search engines, and without paying attention to them, you may not be seen online at all except by chance.
