AR and VR Solutions to Enhance The Retail Operation
With the explosion of interest in Virtual Entertainment over past few years, there’s been a lot of different names thrown around for different experience types. Mixed Reality, Virtual reality, Extended Reality, Augmented Reality, you name it. These technologies have been discussed for a long period of time but now the technology has the power so that these technologies to have a real impact into the human’s life.
AR and VR solutions have been gaining traction in the retail landscape, increasingly attracting marketing spend. They are both two points of the same spectrum and aim to add similar value in retail, providing personalized and engaging experiences. While AR solutions consists in overlaying digital content upon the real world, enriching it with interactivity, VR solutions immerses users into an alternate reality, completely disconnected from the actual world.
What is Virtual Reality?
The creation of a virtual world that users can interact with is Virtual reality. This virtual world should be designed in such a way that users would find it difficult to tell the difference from what is real and what is not. Furthermore, VR solution is usually achieved by the wearing of a Virtual Reality helmet or goggles similar to the Oculus Rift.
What is Augmented Reality?
The blending of real life with virtual reality is AR, as developers can create images within application that blends with the content in real world. Users can interact with virtual contents in the real world, and are able to differentiate between the two.
Examples of Augmented Reality Technology and Virtual Reality Technology
Google glass, Autodesk showcase, 3D Retail Catalogues, Sports Scores on television- all are examples of Augmented and Virtual Reality Solutions. Augmentation is conventionally in real-time and in semantic context with environmental elements.
Similarities and Difference
Augmented reality and Virtual reality are similar in the goal of immersing the user, through both systems to this in different way. User is isolated from real world while interacting with virtual objects around them in Virtual Reality. While in Augmented Reality, stays in touch with real world while interacting with virtual objects around them.
With Virtual Reality, the user is isolated from the real world while immersed in a world that is completely fabricated. As it stands, Virtual Reality might work better for video games and social networking in a virtual environment, such as Second Life, or even PlayStation Home.
Which technology will succeed?
Since there are several products already on the market, Virtual reality is behind Augmented reality. The rise of Augmented hardware devices from Google in form of Glass, and also plans from Microsoft to launch something similar with its $150 million purchase for wearable computing assets.
On the matter of Virtual Reality, the technology is just stepping up to the plate. It’s still far away from being this great thing for social encounters in a virtual world, but with the rise of the Oculus Rift, it is getting there.
We believe both AR and VR will succeed; however, Augmented Reality might have more commercial success though, because it does not completely take people out of the real world.
Different Types Applications:
- Projection: AR/VR solutions are the backbone of real estate and architectural projects.
- Maps/Geolocation: AR/VR powers mapping — geospatial and geolocation. It is the best way to find nearby malls, parking spots, hospitals, café etc.
- Image Recognition: The concept of QR codes has revolutionized the market. It is the sheer magic of AR combined with image recognition.
- Gaming: From 3D effects to modified sound haptic feedback and add-ons, AR/VR solutions have created a magical experience for gamers like never before.
