Below you will find the complete lyrics to the song HISS. Then I will post an image. After the image will be an analytical lyrical (analyrical) analysis of the song with some additional commentary. Her lyrics will be in bold in the second section, and the commentary will look like this.

Lyrics:

I just wanna kick this shit off by sayin’: Fuck y’all
I ain’t gotta clear my name on a motherfuckin’ thing
Every time I get mentioned
One of y’all bitch-ass niggas get twenty-four hours of attention
I’m finna get this shit off my chest and lay it to rest
Let’s go (let’s go)

(And if the beat live) (B-B-Bankroll Got It) ayy

I feel like Mariah Carey (Mariah Carey)
Got these niggas so obsessed (damn)
My pussy so famous, might get managed by Kris Jenner next (yeah, yeah)
He can’t move on, can’t let it go (let it go)
He hooked, nose full of that Tina Snow
And since niggas need Megan help to make money, bitch, come be my ho
All of you bitches is weak, on the Bible (weak, on the Bible)
Talkin’ shit from where no one can find you
I can never be judged by a bitch that was dancin’, makin’ R. Kelly go viral
Ayy, I’m sexy as fuck and I’m freaky (and I’m freaky)
Get whoever I want, eeny-meeny (yeah)
Why the fuck would I stay with a nigga that’s weak in the sheets and don’t know how to please me?
Bodies on bodies on bodies on bodies
Say he fucked Megan and now he the topic
These niggas thinkin’ they lowered the value
All this free promo, I’m turnin’ a profit
Hate when a nigga be kissin’ and tellin’ (tellin’)
Say he a player, but he in his feelings (what?)
Bet I won’t give up the pussy again (no)
Shit, should’ve gave it to his friend (ayy)
These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law
I don’t really know what the problem is, but I guarantee y’all don’t want me to start
Bitch, you a pussy (you a pussy)
Never finna check me (yeah)
Every chance you get, bet your weak ass won’t address me (ho)
Bitches swear they G, but the G must stand for goofy (G must stand for goofy)
When the fuck did all the gangster niggas turn to groupies?
Everybody wanna kick it when you ain’t a threat (ain’t a threat)

These niggas don’t like me ’cause they know I’m on they neck
Y’all goofy-ass hoes look so dumb every time y’all celebrate fake news, hah
Usin’ my name for likes and views
I don’t give a fuck what y’all make trend, bitch, I still win
(Hahaha)

Nigga, ain’t you hear? I ain’t scared of dick
Any man go against me, I handle shit (handle shit)
I’m the Teflon Don in the courtroom (yeah)
They be throwin’ that dirt, don’t shit stick (shit stick)
All these lil’ rap niggas so fraud (so fraud)
Xanax be they hardest bars (mmm)
These niggas hate on BBLs and be walkin’ ‘round with the same scars
Real curvy, no edgin’, niggas fight to get in my section (my section)
Don’t speak on my body count if the dick ain’t worth comin’ back for seconds
Cosplay gangsters, fake-ass accents
Posted in another nigga hood like a bad bitch (where are you from?)
I’m a big dog, bitch, can’t lil’ sis me (lil’ sis me)
Hoes get views when they tryna diss me (mmm)
Make one move, got ’em in a tizzy (in a tizzy)
Killin’ shit, that’s why they tryna rip me
Still goin’ hard with the odds against me (odds against me)
These niggas don’t have fans, they bots (no)
These bitches don’t have ass, they shots (yeah)
And they still tuned in if they fans or not

Allegations from the oppositions, bitch niggas just eatin’ it up
These blogs get paid to lie, y’all talk shit and be broke as fuck (broke as fuck)
Bottom line is I’m still rich (yeah), do Megan bad and I’m still good (still good)
Bringin’ up who might’ve fucked and the bottom line is they still would
I just wanna fuck my nigga in peace, but all my old niggas still love me
Niggas ain’t hit this pussy in years, damn, I knew my shit was heat
None of you niggas was wifey material
None of you niggas was worth all the drama
None of you niggas was hittin’ it raw and mad I’m not one of your baby mamas
Always got my ass out, always let my titties show
When I’m in the gym, I think ‘bout bitches that I’m shittin’ on
I’m way too fuckin’ cocky to take him back if he been cheatin’
I can’t let none of you raggedy bitches think that y’all my equal
Ever since I claimed the summer, all you bitches want a season (all you bitches want a season)
Ask a ho why she don’t like me, bet she can’t give you a reason
You know motherfuckin’ well these bitches wanna sound like Tina
Don’t you ever grab a mic and think that me and you competin’, hmm

Ayy, bad bitch and the walls ain’t bendin’
Post photo, name start trendin’
Why every time one of y’all Z-list hoes do an interview, I get mentioned? (Ayy, look)
I don’t give a fuck who think what
You niggas is typin’ for nothin’
On the internet typin’ this shit to me?
Write him a letter or somethin’
Say, bitch-ass nigga, don’t type me nothin’ else, don’t write me nothin’ else (get the fuck out the comments)

Download JPay since y’all niggas got so much to say
Or schedule a conjugal visit or somethin’, hahaha
Dick ridin’-ass niggas (baow, baow, baow, baow)

She starts of with:

I just wanna kick this shit off by sayin’: Fuck y’all
I ain’t gotta clear my name on a motherfuckin’ thing
Every time I get mentioned
One of y’all bitch-ass niggas get twenty-four hours of attention
I’m finna get this shit off my chest and lay it to rest
Let’s go (let’s go)(And if the beat live) (B-B-Bankroll Got It) ayy

Megan starts the song off unapologetically strong and addresses her audience with “fuck y’all”. Then she uses a double entendre with the word “mentioned” to set the scene for what can be described as “cyber warfare”. Megan expands on how the internet use of the internet impacts her, as well as shedding light on what kind of things interest people, marketing-wise. Or she highlights “what sells”.

She starts the verse rapped verse with a simile. Then she extends the simile and adds a cultural reference (the 2009 song Obsession). In the next sentence she uses hyperbole, humor & acknowledgment all in one. In this case, she uses “pussy” in a literal sense. She references two names anyone on the internet should know.

After she created a semantic field of addiction using the following phrases, “can’t move on”, “can’t let go”, “hooked”, “nose full” & “snow”.

Then she uses the imperative, “come be my ho”. This created some nice imagery. Tino Snow is an alter ego for the raptress, this persona is a reference to Pimp C’s alter ego Tony Snow who had an unapologetic attitude and fearless spirit. He was also a more raw version of himself. And when Megan behaves like this men are addicted to her. And like a pimp, she uses an imperative to put them into place and fortify her stage persona.

I feel like the line “All of you bitches is weak, on the Bible” was a mediocre line. This could have been a nice chance for alliteration with a B-starting adjective. Something like “Blasphemous bitches be weak, on the bible”. Or “Blasphemous bitches be bums, on the bible”. IDK. I felt like this was a missed opportunity or a very weak lyrical moment. This gets an elementary school-level line.

This starts with a playful tone as she references a children’s counting song (with a partial racist passed depending on the version you read). The next line uses a rhetorical question. The next line uses repetition on top of a repetitive act that builds up — This is a very nice rhythmic use of repetition.

We now hit the main idea of the song. She says, “All this free promo, I’m turnin’ a profit.” All of the promos she gets online and in real life get her a lot of attention in both spaces and she flips both of these into profit.

Also outside of judging her writing, we can ask what kind of promo gets her money. So? Promo related to her sexuality and not as a person. People don’t care about Megan as an artist, they care about her as a sexual artist, but this is also how she markets herself. So she sexualizes herself for profit and highlights how everyone else is fascinated by her sensuality and she continues to profit.

With “kissin & tellin” — she usage of cacophony here, with the hard sounds of “k” & “t” which emphasizes the conflict or tension she experiences when people kiss & tell.

After there’s some structural irony. She expresses that she’s expecting player-like energy, but he’s not giving that. Especially in comparison to her dominance.

Then in the next sentence, she starts with the word “bet”. To me this implies introspection and in this soliloquial statement, she expresses a regret, where she will indeed not give the pussy up again, to anyone that doesn’t match her energy. The pussy is both literal, but she also redefines it as something powerful because she controls it.

And in that last sentence, a bit of irony is being used. The writer at first didn’t expect the sex to be bad, and now that the dick wasn’t all that, she realized that his friend was probably the better option. Structural irony here because the events that played out weren’t expected or played out differently from what the writer thought.

She starts here with the jaw-dropping line that is allegedly geared towards Nicki Minaj. Afterward, she redirects her attention to the onlookers and says that they don’t want her to start.

Then she creeps into the rule of 3 as she describes a “bitch” in 3 ways. With initial characterization (pussy), avoidance (not gonna check me), and lack of confrontation (won’t address me).

The next line’s meaning: Bitches want to be like gangsters, but unknowingly they look goofy, and the actual gangsters have turned into a more submissive role. Then she asks another rhetorical question.

Y’all goofy-ass hoes look so dumb every time y’all celebrate fake news, hah
Usin’ my name for likes and views
I don’t give a fuck what y’all make trend, bitch, I still win
(Hahaha)

Here we have more repetition in the theme. But I think he word “goofy” sits too close to the last “goofy”, I would change it. But this is the artist’s choice.

This part is spoken. If this song had real hip-hop energy she would have put a name on it, but she doesn’t and avoids it while calling other people a pussy.

Maybe for defamation? Maybe out of fear of the barbs? But as she says “yall don’t want me to start” and she doesn’t actually get started. This song is saying “I haven’t even said anything yet”. If there is a second song with more details then this would be a great prelude.

Dick symbolizes power and masculinity. In the second line, there is a reference to power or sex, she sees men as fair game and equal competition, and confident in herself.

In the next line, she uses a nice metaphor. Then it becomes an extended metaphor, people regularly or continuously try to spoil her image in “court” or “online” and it doesn’t stick. She is the Teflon Don and the courtroom is the internet.

She calls rappers lil and fake. Then she references a drug that calms people down and says their best lyrics are Xanax-induced while comparing these lyrics to Xanax. This archetype of a rapper will hate on a woman for modifying her body but then do the same to themselves in different ways. I assume this is what this means, but it’s written a bit vaguely, or perhaps it takes some background knowledge as GeniusLyrics says this is a reference to drake.

She’s repetitive when addressing two groups of people, bitches & niggas, or men & women. And here she says the gangsters are cosplay ing— highlighting how Hollywood markets black masculinity to people even if the artists themselves don’t embody that vibe in real life. So the most marketable thing to viewers is a sexually dominant black woman and a gangster rapper even if it’s just a persona.

And then I assume she’s talking girls who use fake accents. Maybe this refers to Nicki Minaj who frequently uses different accents when speaking (NYC, Trinidadian & British). Or it might still be talking about rappers who put on fake accents to rap.

The next few lines. I'm not a fan of background vocals like this being used that a lot of hip-hop uses (what’s written in parenthesis). Because it doesn’t add much when they repeat the same words in the background, the background vocals should add something. They don’t do much for me here. But she does a nice acronymic usage of RIP as a word after saying “killing”.

At the end here there is an unveiling of information or an exposure. And she takes it back to cyberspace by claiming fans are actual bots. She compares herself and her success to actually being the center of attention and getting genuine likes, whereas her competition likely buys followers. Allegedly.

She broadens the conversation to a wider group of haters, before she’s talking about famous people on her level, likely in Blackholywood, because white Hollywood doesn’t normally engage with the hood drama, and then talks to anyone who’s hating or speaking negatively, this could also refer to the Barbz.

After it feels like she’s playing around with “levels” with her language. This rollercoaster imagery: Eating it “up” (high), to yall broke as fuck (low) to bottom line (low) to I’m still rich (high) and I’m still good (high). Bringing up (high), and bottom line (low). It’s a nice attempt. But this could have been executed better to really be impactful.

I personally love the colloquial language with “I knew my shit was heat”.

Nice anaphora that she uses at the end with “none of you niggas” said 3 times. She actually continues with an anaphora again in the next section here:

She’s expressing her standards through the lens of her haters. Her female haters who have experienced being cheated on have taken their men back, hence expressing their lack of self-worth. And when they see Megan not doing that, they automatically see her as valuing herself. Megan admits to valuing herself too much to not give what she’s getting — loyalty. This continues the idea of seeing eye to eye with men and them being on her level.

Then the next lines with “season & reason”. Nice reference, weak delivery. She could have extended the reference a little more but didn’t.

The next 2 lines. She’s either playing around with her pronunciation to make near rhymes or she’s not able to rhyme at all.

Ayy, bad bitch and the walls ain’t bendin’
Post photo, name start trendin’
Why every time one of y’all Z-list hoes do an interview, I get mentioned? (Ayy, look)
I don’t give a fuck who think what
You niggas is typin’ for nothin’
On the internet typin’ this shit to me?
Write him a letter or somethin’

I find that she starts the verse with “Ayy” to get attention but to also refer to herself, and it couples well visually with “Z-list”. Then another double entendre with “mentioned”, where this could be a literal mention or an internet @mention.

The next line. Clearly, she does give a fuck because she’s writing a song about them. But this line fits very well with the personality type that she's branded to be or trying to present. A dominant, slightly petty, immature, sexual female rapper. And this line is greatly written for that tone. The tone of this line is also very pleasing as each word has one syllable. Then the flow switches to 1 syllable, 2 syllable, 1 syllable, 2 syllable, 1 syllable, 2 syllable. But there is no consistency with this in the song. If she did that, that would be dope.

The next line is about typing on the internet. She calls out the place she’s been talking about directly finally. She speaks about it as a courtroom, a place where they can’t speak directly aka have protection. The place where fake news is thrown around. The place where she gets “mentioned”.

And she clarifies the theme of the cyber attacks she’s been receiving. And this whole response is a cyber attack back to a vague audience and Nicki Minaj.

The rule of 3 again. Here she describes a nigga, as having a lot to say, scheduling conjugal visits & a dick-riding-ass. This is consistent with the energy of being niggas being groupies and submissive. And asserting her dominance again.

That’s my analyrical review. Now let me move on to some other comments.

Here are some brief comments on some themes or parameters.

Literary devices

I think she does some nice things lyrically. But there is a lot of room for improvement.

Tones of voice

Aggressive. Dominant. Sexual. Confident. Boss bitch.

Continuity, logic, story & theme

She stayed on the theme of her song. I haven’t heard the “album” so I’m not sure if this ties into something else. She keeps saying the same thing in slightly different ways without much detail. She paints a blurry picture of experiencing online hate. More details would have made this song perfect or more specific disses.

Creative moments

The Kris Jenner line was clever and funny. The Xanax line was a nice bar but it wouldn't make my jaw drop. There’s no unpredictability in her lyrics. We know exactly what she will say next because there’s not a lot of creativity here.

Vocal performance

She executes her words well. I love a rapper who can annunciate while speaking fast like Busta Rhymes and Twista. She doesn’t rap fast but she remains clear and is easily understood. But she doesn’t creatively use her voice, doesn’t play around with volume, or anything notable.

Flow(s)

There were 2 main flows I noticed. I feel like for a song that doesn’t have a chorus you have a lot of freedom to do whatever. There’s a lot that she could have done, she could have an extremely slow part or even a really fast bar. Because the “fast” bars in the song aren’t fast enough to be impressive. In general, though, she stays on the beat. Sometimes though, I question her rhyme choice.

Relation to the Artist’s image (marketing)
& Relation to Artist’s personal life & growth

She’s marketed as a dominant strong sexual black woman. IDK how she is in real life. I think her target audience, must want to see this type of person hence why she presents herself as such. But she’s a rapper. She’s an entertainer. She’s a businesswoman. At the end of the day, she puts on a persona for work and takes it off when she enters office meetings.

Are there areas for improvement?

The whole song. Make it into a story. Play around with the vocals more. Write better lyrics intentionally. Give more details about the people who are haters. The beat was simple, so there were so many flows that could have been used that could have been crazy. But also the song is perfect. My personal opinion doesn't matter because the song does exactly what it’s supposed to do.

This is a vague attention-seeking song that you can twerk to and start controversy. And she created this with such success, and it got a response from Nicki Minaj. This song is 100% and it prophesies its own success which makes it even better. So on this, I would give it 10/10 for meeting its purpose and its audience. But for a rap song centered on hip-hop, I’d give it 6/10. There’s no basis for this rating. That’s just what my heart says.
