Life is Finite

I keep a index card of my five weekly goals on my desk (http://www.kevinvo.co/). I glance at it every day. On my bathroom mirror I keep a countdown of the days I have left to live. I am 23, which means I’ve depleted around 25% of my life.

I only have one life to enjoy time with the people I care about. I only have one life to explore what this world has to offer, to learn and invent new things. Being cognizant of death makes me less worried about frivolous things. It makes me relentless in pruning the trivial things. It prevents me from taking experiences and relationships for granted because it may never happen again.

The finite nature of life forces me to think carefully about how I spend my time. Do I really want to spend my time watching T.V.? Do I really want to spend all my time at home when the entire world is out there? For some, this may bring them the most pleasure and I respect that. Each individual has a unique preference function. For me, life is about the people you meet. Life is a chance to create my story and to listen to the stories of others.

“This is your comfort zone. It’s this big. All the things that you want in the world are way out there.” — Paper Towns
