All right, I’m gonna write this once, then drop it, because you guys are gonna do what you’re gonna do. Please, please, if you want to write about national politics find someone who actually has a political background. Citing the seeming conclusion of Saturday Night Live’s satire or the Twitter masses don’t count as in-depth reporting and analysis. For one, there’s no mention of Trump selling out Sessions the other day, which could have possibly contributed.
But, regardless of any issues with this particular article, if The Ringer wants to blog about The Bachelor or whatever, go ahead. But, if you’re going to write about serious things, please at least find an editor who has a legitimate political background who can guide them. You know, someone who could say — “Hey, pick up the phone and talk to this person. They can give you some insight into the situation” rather than spending half the article dissecting Melissa McCarthy’s portrayal of him, listing his many well-known ignominious moments, and including a long, vivid, but ultimately not very insightful passage from a New York Magazine article.
Call up your buddy Jon Favreau. I’m sure he can put you in touch with someone who would do a good job.
