First off, if I’m a team considering trading for him, I’m seriously questioning these comments. I get that he has ambition, and that’s fine. But, there’s also a decent chance he would be “the man” on the Cavs after next season, so I don’t see much reason to not just wait. If you’re the Spurs, do you really want to trade for someone who couldn’t stand playing second fiddle to Lebron James — the best player of his generation and, generally, an excellent teammate?
Second, I think Kyrie’s making a mistake because he’s not as good as he thinks he is. The Cavs didn’t do much before Lebron, and, even though I don’t study advanced metrics, apparently he’s not great when Lebron’s off the court.
He’s a great scorer, but he’s not a great passer from what I can tell, and I don’t know that he makes the people around him much better. He definitely can’t go Westbrook/Harden and be a one-man offense. I’d take Wall over him in a second, and I love Wall, but I think he’s a second-tier star as well.
It just seems like a bit of an impetuous move right now, and that doesn’t speak too well of the leadership skills necessary to be the man on a team.
