I actually wasn’t intending to be as harsh as I may have come off. I think the site could use a Zach Lowe or a Bill Barnwell, but their sports coverage is generally solid.

The pop culture criticism is fine, even if I don’t think it’s great. However, I feel like if they’re going to take on important subjects like national politics, then the bar for expertise should be raised in the writers, or at least an editor who can guide them towards gaining that expertise should be hired. I wasn’t being sarcastic when I said to contact Jon Favreau. He’s a perfect example of someone with the background I’m talking about, and I’m sure there are many others.

What’s most notable, to me, at least, is that the sports journalists are the only ones that seem to do any actual journalism. I believe Robert Mays and Kevin O’Connor cultivate actual insider sources who they can discuss articles with. I don’t believe they do for much of the pop culture criticism, but I’m not terribly concerned with their treatment of the latest Game of Thrones episode. I would be very surprised if any one who writes on politics has a single inside source in politics. If they put the same level of journalism that they put to sports even, I would be satisfied.
