I thought about this when I heard that Chauncey Billups got lowballed money-wise by the Cavs, and they have a reputation for it. They’re way in to the luxury tax, paying Tristan Thompson $15 million a year.
Considering there’s no cap, why wouldn’t you pay a bunch of money to get a top-notch front office. It’s one of the easiest ways to make your self better.
I get that some might not want to spend the money, but if I recall correctly, they offered Billups $2 million dollars. The radio article said the average was around $4 million. As everyone knows, Tim Hardaway Jr. just got a 70 million dollar contract. I’d argue the GM is as valuable as, at least, your 4th best player. Why would you quibble over 2 million dollars a year?
