I’ve never read the Suicide Squad, and, obviously haven’t seen the movie, so I’m going out on a limb here a bit. It seems with this sort of material you have to have actors who really “get it.” Not just actors who are willing to go on a limb for a part, but who understand what connects people to the material in the first place.

A good example is Ryan Reynolds with Deadpool. Personally, again, I’ve only read snippets of Deadpool, and thought the movie was pretty solidly ok. Good, but not great. But, it was pretty clear that Reynolds got Deadpool, and that fans of the comics thought that came through.

It’s a little unclear whether that’s the case with this movie. And, with movies (and characters) that are more dark and twisted, I feel it’s even more important.

Anyways, good review — although, in this case, it probably means I won’t be seeing it (or, I’ll catch it sometime in the future on Netflix).
