Regardless of the political significance, La La Land was pretty awful in my opinion, and it’s legacy is most likely going to be similar to Crash. It’s all surface appeal, but if you look any deeper then it becomes either silly (if you take it seriously) or saccharine (if you don’t).

I didn’t love Moonlight as much as everyone else seems to have, but I did think it was a very good movie that will hold up. I only watched the first 20 minutes of Fences, but, in my opinion, despite the fact that it was clearly adapted from a play, it was easily the best of the nominees I saw.
