As we embrace the holiday season, we embark a journey through the “12 Days of Nature,” a delightful celebration of the wonders surrounding us.

Starting Dec. 25, follow the below list and share your adventures on social media. Please make sure to tag Nature’s Playbook.

We’re excited to see how you connect with nature!

Day 1: 20 Minutes Of Peace In An Eco Wisdom Session

Sit in front of a tree or go on a tree-lined trail and listen to “Nature’s Internet: How Trees Talk to Each Other in a Healthy Forest.”

You won’t regret it and you may find yourself one step closer to understanding the mysteries of life.

Day 2: Sunset Hike

Meet up with a friend or special someone to walk or hike near a picturesque location to watch the sunset.

Pro’s Tip: Get an early enough start to do your walk and end up at the location to enjoy the sunset.

Day 3: Enjoy One Of Your Meals Outside Today

Break bread with Mother Nature and take the time to embrace the beautiful outdoors! Go on a picnic by a lake with the family or enjoy hot chocolate in a park.

Day 4: Meditation Garden

Schedule some quiet time to decompress from the hustle and bustle of the season. Focus on the sounds of nature.

Day 5: Natural Body Of Water

Find a body of water to do an activity that gets your body moving while appreciating the ecosystem around you.

Day 6: Take A Drive To Enjoy Some Lights This Evening

This may be a local light display or driving through a neighborhood to enjoy some holiday lights!

Often, botanical gardens put on a festive light display in the evenings for the holiday season, including the week after Christmas.

The gardens will stay open in the evening hours with an impressive display of lights highlighting the natural beauty of the gardens. Make sure to plan ahead and get tickets!

Day 7: Listen To Music In Nature

Put on headphones or earbuds and develop an appreciation for classical music or opera while observing birds or critters in their natural habitat.

The delightful experience gives you a true appreciation of life in the smallest forms.

Day 8: Flashlight Walk

This is one that both adults and kids can enjoy! This is a fun outdoor recreation activity whether at the beach, in a park or at a snowy landscape.

Don’t forget to look up at the night sky and see the glorious lights of nature!

Day 9: Grab A Favorite Book And Find A Peaceful Spot In Nature To Read

Whether at the beach, a park or next to a tree or creek, the sounds of nature can offer a soothing backdrop to your favorite stories.

If you are enjoying colder weather, find a comfy seat to enjoy the view from a window in your home, a favorite coffee shop or at the local library.

Day 10: Try Local Birdwatching

Not all birds fly south. Look to see what birds are native to your area in the winter. See how many you can discover.

Here are a couple of articles that might help you on your bird-watching quest:

Day 11: Snow Adventure

If you live where it snows or are within driving distance, take the opportunity to go sledding, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, on a sleigh ride or even making a snowman. If not, go ice skating at your local outdoor rink.

Day 12: Gather With Friends Or Family Over A Favorite Holiday Drink Or Meal

Gather with friends or family over a favorite holiday drink or meal. Enjoy hot cocoa, roast marshmallows or bring a pizza.

Have fun and ask everyone to share their favorite outdoor experience of 2023, their favorite all-time outdoor experience or play it forward for someone by putting their top activities on Nature’s Playbook.
