It’s not *too contrarian of an idea to have kids pay for college. As a parent with 4 young kids, I struggle with planning for college expenses. I think requiring the kids to pay is one way to achieve the end goal, teaching them the importance of hunger, appreciation, etc. There might be other ways i.e. sports (partial scholarships), part-time jobs, ROTC.

This where I fall…I want them to have SOME skin in the game. But when college is $200k-ish over 4 years, it’s hard to ask them to bear the full burden. You and Terri might be exceptions to the rule where you made good college choices and those choices worked for you.
