It’s not about Resources, it’s about Resourcefulness

“Having a startup” or “being an entrepreneur” are cheap words in 2017. People have misleading concepts about those terms.

I notice a trend here, some people think that having a startup is getting some folks around your idea into a garage or a coworking space and work towards that idea until is ready for release and get media attention. Others, think that being an entrepreneur is about bootstrapping companies, invest in ideas and see monthly revenue growth.

All of this could be true at some point, but that’s not what this is all about.

Being an entrepreneur or having a startup is about doing more with less.

That’s it. It’s not about the resources you need to build your startup, it’s about what you can do with what you have right now, at this moment. It’s about Resourcefulness.

Think about it just a second. How many cool ideas you haven’t started yet because you don’t have “X” thing you need?

“I don’t have the %placeholder% to start my idea”: replace %placeholder% with money, time, name, team, legal entity, logo, website, registered brand, designs, co-founder, knowledge, and the list can go on and on.

You have what you believe is a great idea? Start now! Think about what you have right now and how you can put them to work for you.

Oh, you think you need a designer for your interface? Get a piece of paper and start prototyping. Get your hands dirty with some glue and scissors!

Oh, you think you need a sales person? Go out and meet your possible customers for the idea you have, try selling them your idea and they might even contribute or reject you. You can get real feedback from being rejected!.

Oh, you think you need a developer for your app?. There’re apps that let you build a prototype with just dragging and dropping. You don’t need a single line of code to validate your idea.

You might need them at some point, later on. But not now, not to start.

I understood this the hard way. When I started, I had great ideas, but all I was thinking was about the presentation cards, the partners I needed, a nice UI for the website with parallax effects, what the process would be when we got our first customer, etc etc etc. I ended up doing nothing. My idea was never shown to anyone.

I spent money and time with no real results. I realize all I needed was in my head, a piece of paper and ask as many questions as I could.

Do more with less

Stop thinking about what you need to get your idea running. If you are reading this it means you have either a computer or a mobile phone, and internet access, THAT’S A LOT!

Have you noticed that a lot of successful people came from poor families? Is because resources are limited so they have to use them the best way and as much as possible.

The ultimate Resource is Resourcefulness — Tony Robbins

Have you noticed that if someone who is having issues with the car, starts trying to push the car to move it, people (out of nowhere) starts to come and help that person to push the car?

What if the person with car issues does not try to push the car? It’s likely nobody will come to help.

Start now!. Start pushing your idea and people (out of nowhere) will start to appear to cooperate. Great things happens when you do more with less!
