Darkness to Light
Pray for the Darkness, Not the light:
When night falls,
and the clouds turn to smoke
Rolling slow and smooth,
as if to be something entirely different from their daylight brother
You pause for a moment and think to yourself
‘It’s getting dark I should probably go inside’
But your body doesn’t move
Your mind reminds you a second time
‘It’s getting dark and getting late, I should probably go inside’
Your feet don’t move
You pause for a moment and look down
Staring at them like you would your 7-year-old dog
‘What’s the deal? We’ve been doing this since we were two.
Brain says move feet. Feet move feet.’
Nothing.
The wind chimes ding and dong as the air rustles across your face
You know
You’ve always known
Your mind is silent
Your soul is strong and alive
You slowly pick one foot up, then the next
You knew before you even asked yourself
You’ve always known the path
Into the darkness, to be saved by the light
