How I Fell In Love With Writing As A Professional Baseball Player
A journey to finding wholeness
Grinding it out in Minor League Baseball played a toll on me, not just from a physical standpoint, but from a mental and emotional standpoint as well.
The alpha male side of me was getting all the fulfillment as I made my way through the baseball ranks. However, dealing with low times and being in an environment where sharing your feelings wasn’t the norm, I needed an outlet to help me unwind and balance me out. An outlet where I could share my gentle, calm side.
In 2017, a buddy of mine shared with me the book Inward by Yung Pueblo. After reading the first couple chapters, I felt a heaviness in my heart lift. I resonated with the writings deeply and the more I read, the more connected I felt. The simple free written poems filled with wisdom and motivation inspired me to create my own writings. I was good at it, in fact, it brought me back to a time in 3rd grade when my teacher commented on one of my poems we learned to write in class that day, “You’re really good at this!”
Writing helped me to express my creative side and allowed me to release my cooped up energy I had after games. I still remember writing poetry in my seat on 10 hour bus rides, arms and legs crunched together while me and my teammate did…
