Great piece. I’m curious why you don’t mention SVG (scalable vector graphics). SVG format has broader browser support than ever and, by definition, does not require generating multiple versions of icons. Given that your ideal workflow starts with vector graphics anyway, wouldn’t it make more sense to go pixel free?
